A 40-year-old worker from Bihar succumbed to burn injuries, while three others were scalded in a boiler room accident at an iron melting company in Gummidipoondi on Sunday.

A 40-year-old worker from Bihar succumbed to burn injuries, while three others were scalded in a boiler room accident at an iron melting company in Gummidipoondi on Sunday.

Police sources told Express that P Ashok Singh (40), K Suraj Kumar Verma (30), R Udhesh Kumar (24) and S Chandrakanth (28), all hailing from Bihar, were feeding iron scraps into the boiler at Sabari Alloys, a private company located in SIPCOT. Around 3.30 am, the melting liquid became overheated and the fiercely bubbling drops scalded the workers.

The sources said Ashok Singh and Chandrakanth suffered severe burns, as they were standing close to the boiler, while the other two escaped with minor burns. All four were admitted at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital here at 5 am, where Ashok Singh succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

SIPCOT Inspector Ashok Mehta registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) and company officials, including the manager Ilango, were being questioned, the sources added.
