Gandhinagar: A five member medical team of the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital appointed by the Supreme Court has allowed the 14-year-old rape victim to terminate her pregnancy.
The rape survivor had approached the Supreme Court seeking permission for termination of her pregnancy. The teenager was in the 24th week of pregnancy.
The petition said the girl was raped by a doctor whom she had visited in February for treatment of typhoid.
The girl's father moved the apex court challenging a Gujarat High Court ruling denying permission for the abortion. This is a landmark ruling as according to the law a pregnancy cannot be aborted after 20 weeks.
