Menon on goodwill tour of Nepal
Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon arrives in Nepal on Wednesday on a four-day goodwill visit.

Kathmandu: Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon arrives in Nepal on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing peace process following the signing of an accord between the seven-party government and Maoists to end the decade-long insurgency.

The four-day goodwill visit is a regular familiarisation trip by the Indian Foreign Secretary, Prabhat Kumar (counsellor political) Indian embassy, said.

Menon, who will be accompanied by Joint Secretary (North) Pankaj Sharan, will meet Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and other senior political leaders and discuss bilateral issues and the ongoing peace process, official sources said.

Besides the Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary will be meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister K P Sharma Oli, Health Minister Amik Serchan and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitoula. He will also be meeting with former Prime Ministers Surya Bahadur Thapa, Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Menon's visit comes at a time when the government and the CPN-Maoist have agreed to form a 330-member Interim Parliament by dissolving the reinstated House of Representatives.
