KOCHI: The office-bearers of the Kerala Merchants Union (KMU) on Thursday said the details given by the Kochi Metro Rail authorities to the merchants about the land acquisition for the proposed Metro Rail are contradictory. “A group of members of the Merchants Union have got the details of the land acquisition as per the Right to Information Act (RTI). The Metro Rail authorities had provided the land acquisition and alignment details to some merchants. When we analysed both data, we found out that it was contradictory,” said KMU general secretary K A Shaji.He said the contradictory statements had created apprehension among the merchants that they might lose their livelihood. “We hope that the Metro Rail authorities will soon provide us a clear picture of the total volume of land required for the project between the North Rail overbridge and the Ernakulam South railway station,” he added.Shaji said the corporation should take necessary steps to complete the repair work of the roads through which the traffic are being diverted for the reconstruction of the North RoB. “The civic body can seek the help of the PWD and the RBDCK in this regard,” he added.
