BANGALORE: The much-awaited safety inspection of Reach 1 of Namma Metro will begin on September 7. Deepak Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Rail Safety, met officials from BMRCL on Tuesday evening to complete the last formality before Reach 1 can be inaugurated. Speaking to The New Indian Express, he said he has asked for a few more documents from BMRCL and that he will begin a three-day inspection starting on September 7. “We have asked for the Independent Safety Assessor Certificate which will certify the signaling and safety aspect,” Singh said.He added that every aspect of Reach 1 will be inspected including stations, signals, tracks, tracks at crossings and that the entire procedure will take three days. When asked whether BMRCL is likely to get the certificate by the end of this week, he said that he can answer that only after a complete inspection of the site and after thorough verification of the documents.N Sivasailam, Managing Director, BMRCL, had earlier said that the Department of Rail Safety had agreed to begin processing documents before the inspection. “The meeting has taken place today and they have asked for some additional documents. We will provide all the documents necessary,” said N Sivasailam      after the meeting with the Commissioner of Rail Safety on Tuesday.BMRCL needs to complete the last leg of formalities before Reach 1 becomes operational and the city gets its first metro ride.
