CHENNAI: After repeated last-minute cancellations in the past few weeks, the Local Administration Minister KP Munusamy has finally carried out his inspection drive at the Corporation-run slaughterhouse at Pulianthope on Tuesday.Accompanied by the Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, Deputy Commissioner (Health) S Madhumathi and local MLA V Neelakantan, the minister visited different parts of the sprawling slaughterhouse during the early morning inspection drive. It may be noted that the minister’s programme to inspect the ongoing modernisation works of the century-old abattoir was cancelled twice at the last minute in the past three weeks and it finally happened on Tuesday. During his inspection, Munusamy also met the workers engaged in slaughtering processes inside the abattoir and enquired about their grievances. He also directed the Corporation officials to complete the temporary shed, being constructed inside the abattoir to house slaughtering activities until modernisation is completed, soon. While returning from the inspection drive, the Minister stopped his convoy and conducted a sudden inspection of public conveniences located a Sydenhams Road near Choolai. He also interacted with the locals there and noted down their grievances on different civic issues. It may be noted that Mayor M Subramanian had inspected the slaughterhouse just two weeks ago and speeded up the modernisation works.
