CHENNAI: State Local Administration Minister K P Munusamy along with the Housing Minister Vaithiyalingam on Monday visited the fire-ravaged area near KP Park in Pulianthope locality.Besides consoling the residents who have lost their belongings to the fire, the Minister also ordered the civic officials to provide relief materials to all the affected.Chennai Corporation has distributed over 3500 food packets and bread items to the affected people and they have also made elaborate arrangements to accommodate the affected in the civic body’s nearby schools and community halls. Munusamy also ordered the district collector to conduct an immediate survey of the affected people to provide cash relief and free sarees and dhotis.Meanwhile, Mayor M Subramanian along with former Information Minister, Paruthi Izhamvazhuthi visited the fire victims in the morning. He ordered the civic body officials to speed up the relief works.Munusamy also visited the Kilpauk Government Hospital to enquire about treatment being given to the injured people. The minister met two fire victims, Kuppammal (42) and Kuttiappan (70) at the hospital and gifted them fruits for their speedy recovery.Besides others, CPIM state general secretary G Ramakrishnan also visited the affected area along with the party’s North Chennai district Secretary, T K Shanmugam. Speaking to reporters after meeting the victims, Ramakarishan appealed to the State government to distribute relief materials to the victims as most of them had lost everything to the fire.Shanmugam while speaking to reporters asked the State government to give more cash relief to the affected families as the now distributed financial relief of `2,000 per family would not be of much help to them. He also asked the State government to conduct an immediate survey of the damaged goods and render relief material at the earliest.
