Mixed response to MES bandh

BELGAUM: The Belgaum bandh called by pro-Maharashtra organisations on Friday — to protest the attack by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists on the offices of the Belgaum City Corporation (BCC) Mayor and Deputy Mayor — elicited a mixed response.    Most commercial establishments were closed. City buses stayed off the road as the NWKRTC withdrew services. Business establishments, courts, private offices, movie theatres and petrol pumps functioned normally, while a few private educational institutes declared a holiday. To avoid untoward incidents, police deployed additional forces like DAR and KSRP in all sensitive places, including important roads and circles.    Police had even installed cameras in sensitive places.
