A metropolitan magistrate's court in Mumbai on Thursday directed the Mumbai Police to probe allegations made by one of the defence lawyers in the photojournalist gangrape case that some policemen threatened him and asked him to pull out of the case.
Advocate Moin Khan, who represents Kasim Bengali, one of the five accused in the rape case, on Thursday filed an application in the court saying, the police did not allow him to meet his client in the morning.
Further, advocate Khan said, he was threatened by two constables, who said he should withdraw his 'vakalatnama'. The policemen abused him in a way that offended his religious sentiments, he alleged.
Magistrate Uday Padwad directed Azad Maidan Police officers to investigate the allegations. Police on Thursday filed a chargesheet in the gangrape case, where five persons are accused of raping a young photojournalist at Shakti Mill Compound in central Mumbai on August 22.
