Mumbai: The convicts in the Shakti Mills photojournalist gangrape case have filed a plea in the Bombay High Court seeking to strike down trial court's order allowing an additional charge of 376 e on three of the convicts who were also charged in the gangrape case of a telephone operator. The Mumbai court will continue hearing on the sentencing of convicts in the photojournalist case at 4 pm on Tuesday.

The Mumbai court hearing the photojournalist gangrape case on Monday had agreed to add Section 376 E of the Indian Penal Code against the three repeat offenders in the case. The prosecutor in the case, Ujjwal Nikam, had moved a plea to apply the section against the three convicts.

The clause provides for death penalty as the maximum punishment. "The court heard our appeal. This will act as a strong deterrent to other offenders," Nikam said.
