Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi, convicted of murder of poetess Madhumati Shukla and accused in 30 other cases, is leading a luxurious life along with his wife in the Gorakhpur jail.
Hidden cameras reveal the nexus between the Uttar Pradesh Police and Amarmani Tripathi, who is serving a life term. Owing to the proximity to the UP government, the police is bending all rules in the jail manual for Tripathi and his wife.
Both the convicts who were supposed to be serving their jail term in the Uttarakhand jail, are not behind bars in any jail since the past two years but are living a luxurious life in a hospital in Gorakhpur on the pretext of getting treatment.
The husband-wife duo allegedly suffer from depression among other diseases are being 'treated' in the hospital. During their stay, they have turned a ward in the hospital into their personal living quarters secured by private body guards, even as the UP police look on.
The police does what Amarmani orders them to do and no officer is permitted to meet him without his permission.
This is not just it, the former politician who has jumped camps from Congress to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Samajwadi Party (SP) to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also holds a durbar to hear peoples' grievances and provide them possible help.
During the under-cover operation, Amarmani offered to get plum posting the reporters who were posing as policemen.
For the last two years, Tripathi and his wife have managed to stay in this hospital claiming to suffer from various ailments, despite medical opinion which has been contrary to it.
Aggrieved over the justice system in the country, ex-DGP Uttar Pradesh KL Gupta said, "Our criminal and justice system is so corrupt that by bribing you can get your job done. Both police and judiciary are involved. In our country everybody has a price and Amarmani is taking advantage of this. Nobody is able to take any action against Amarmani because the UP government is supporting him."
Madhumita's sister Nidhi Shukla hopes that the sting operation revealing the life of Tripathi will force the government to act. "I am sure after this sting operation, the UP government will start taking action. But I know that will be only for few days. Amarmani might again be sent to jail," she said.
