New Delhi: Infosys Technologies Ltd chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy on Wednesday dismissed talks that he was running for presidency once the term of the incumbent president APJ Abdul Kalam is over.
"I am not the person to comment on those things", said Murthy, considered the face of India's IT industry. "This is all hypothetical... so, we should not spend time on hypothetical issues," PTI quoted him as saying.
The new President is to assume office on July 25, 2007, and Murthy is reported to be a front runner for the post. However, he categorically denies the rumours: "You have to ask the people who have said so."
Kalam has indicated that he is not interested in another term in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President is elected by members of an electoral college comprising members of both Houses of Parliament and legislative Assemblies.
Several names, including Congress veterans Karan Singh and Sushil Kumar Shinde, BJP stalwart and Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, CPI-M's long-standing parliamentarian, are doing the round for the top job.
