Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of NCP has complained to Legislative Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of four of its MLAs, who had defected to Congress in October last year.
The petition was filed by NCP state president Gicho Kabak on Wednesday demanding disqualification of four legislators, namely Techi Kaso, Alo Libang, Bamang Felix and Ralom Borang, as per the directive of the NCP's central leadership, party sources said in Itanagar on Thursday.
The NCP MLAs had defected to Congress on October 8 last year without fulfilling Article 39 of the Constitution of the party, sources said.
The party said that the Speaker would use his statutory power and uphold Article 191(2) of the Constitution and the Members of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on ground of defection rules) 1987.
The party further claimed that the national leaders in Delhi have already lost faith in tribal leaders of Arunachal Pradesh for frequently changing their party after election.
"The party will take legal process or democratic movement against the Speaker if he fails to take legitimate action against the defected MLAs before December 15," the sources said.
