"She asks, where will I study? I said we will decide later," said a hapless father of the victim.

Noida: Three days after a mother and her daughter were raped at gunpoint for three hours on the Delhi-Kanpur Highway in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, neighbours seem to have started shunning the rape survivors.

While most of the perpetrators are still at large, the Police continue to issue hollow assurances to the family. If that wasn't enough, the family is now bracing itself for the fresh onslaught from the fellow residents in Noida as the rape taboo surrounds survivors.

"She asks, where will I study? I said we will decide later," said a hapless father of the victim. Most of the residents in their colony demand justice for them, the same people also believe that it would be in the best interest of the family to leave the locality and shift elsewhere so as to avoid further marginalisation and social stigma.

At a time when the survivors are reeling from the trauma inflicted by rape, society might as well force them to abandon their home owing to the taboo associated with rape.
