Nellore Red Cross Blood Bank closed

NELLORE: District collector B Sreedhar has suspended the activities of the District Red Cross Society Blood Bank here for a temporary period and taken over the accounts and other records.In his capacity as chairman of the DRCS, the collector took the decision on Wednesday and said that till the blood bank resumed its functioning, there would not be any collection or supply of blood. Further, there will not be any blood donation camps to be organised by the DRCS.He clarified that the temporary suspension of DRCS Blood Bank's activities had no connection with a recent incident wherein a woman was allegedly given HIV-infected blood. “The DRCS Blood Bank has been temporarily shut down for overhaul and to improve the standards and infrastructure. As far as the incident is concerned, a high-power committee, which conducted the probe, submitted its report to the state government, Further action will be taken after receiving directions from the government,'' he said.
