BANGALORE: A new UK Visa Application Centre was inaugurated in the city on Monday. Promoters said this year there would be an increase in the number of travellers due to London Olympics. The new centre provides an enhanced service for the UK-bound travellers and businessmen. Internet facilities in the visa application centre allow customers to complete and print their online visa application forms. The normal hours for submission of applications and collection of documents are being extended by two hours for the convenience of customers. With immediate effect, the opening hours are from 8 am to 4 pm. Officials said that India is one of the UK’s biggest visa operations in the world as the UK Border Agency deals with about 400,000 visa applications. Of over 400,000 visa applications processed in India last year, 87 per cent were successful, they said. Adding that over 2,50,000 short term visitor visas were issued in 2011, 90 per cent of those who applied were successful and of the 2,50,000 visitor visas issued, 57,000 were for business visitors. This equates to 95 pc of those who applied for visa. About 75 per cent of these applications were processed within five working days, they said.
