BANGALORE: The Karnataka government has time and again assured that it would cater to the needs of the Information Technology (IT) sector to attract more investors to the state. But the government’s delay in providing the necessary infrastructure has led IT bigwigs to shoot off letters raising concerns over delays in major projects. IT bellwether Infosys confirmed that it has written a letter to the authorities expressing concern over the slow pace of work at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for IT on the outskirts of the city. This comes at a time when the state is trying to woo investors from across the globe to get investments to the tune of Rs 5 lakh crore during this year’s Global Investors Meet. Infosys signed up for a 40-acre campus which, it claims, would generate 15,000 jobs. The company had paid Rs 1.36 crore as deposit for the project.“There is no water and roads there,” Ramdas Kamat, senior vice-president and head of infrastructure, Infosys, said, pointing to the pathetic environment to start construction activities.Though it was earlier said that Infosys and another IT bigwig had sought a refund, Kamat confirmed that Infosys had raised concerns, but had not yet sought a refund. “We have spoken to the government and it has assured us that things would be in place by 2013,” he added.Asserting that it was the responsibility of the government to provide water, road and power, Kamat, however, expressed hope that it would facilitate their demands sooner than later. When contacted by Express, Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said he was unaware of any such communication as he had been out of the country for a while.
