Even the IITs, which figured in the list in earlier, have not made it.

London: Not a single Indian university has figured in a list of the world’s top 200, this year, while six Chinese universities have made the list.

Harvard University has topped the league table of The Times Higher Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, which began three years ago. Runners up have been Cambridge and Oxford at second and third positions, respectively.

The list shows that the top 10 universities are either British or American.

In addition to China, the other Asian countries that have figured in the list are Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

The IITs, which had been regulars in the rankings of previous years have also not made it to the top 200. It is believed that this is due to the change in evaluation norms.

For this year’s survey, each IIT had been assessed independently rather than the IIT system as a whole, as it was done earlier. None of the seven institutes could make its mark in the world’s top rankings.

Despite that, IIT Delhi and IIT Mumbai have featured in the top 50 tech institutes world-wide, at 37 and 33, respectively.

The survey, which covered 28 countries, has confirmed the English-speaking world's dominance in higher education.
