BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Tuesday cancelled leave of all doctors in view of the dengue outbreak gripping a major chunk of the districts. The step has been taken to ensure attendance in the hospitals and medical institutions during the holidays from Wednesday to Friday. The Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday issued orders to the authorities of medical colleges and hospitals and CDMOs at the district level not to grant leave to doctors and paramedical staff except under exceptional and genuine circumstances. All subordinate officials have also been instructed accordingly. The Government has also taken strong exception to the reluctance of the specialists and doctors to take up their positions in different hospitals following their transfer. It has also come to notice that many doctors have left their places of posting on unauthorised leave after joining and attending duty for a brief period. Some have even chosen to stay away from their places of posting under the plea of having filed representations on their choice postings and awaiting modification orders. While deeming this to have impacted the health care services delivery system in times of dengue outbreak, the Department on Tuesday warned of disciplinary proceedings against the specialists, doctors and PG passouts if they did not join their places of posting by September 5. Action would also be taken against those who have been on unauthorised leave if they fail to resume duty by the above date. All the representations have also been deemed disposed of and earlier places of postings stand for the present situation, the order stated. Meanwhile, though the wave of dengue is seemingly subsiding in the most affected Angul and other coastal districts like Jajpur and Cuttack, it appears to have moved on to the Western parts of the State. Of the 187 samples tested on Tuesday across the SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack, Capital Hospital at Bhubaneswar and VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla, 50 were found positive. As high as 46 of the positive tested samples were from the VSSMCH while at SCB only four of the 92 samples were confirmed. Jharsuguda district accounted for the majority of the positive cases on Tuesday with 23 samples found to be afflicted by dengue while five cases were confirmed in Sambalpur. Angul reported one, Jajpur two, Sundargarh 12, Bargarh two and Bhadrak, Balangir, Deogarh, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi one each. Till Tuesday, a total of 912 samples have been found positive out of 2,521 samples tested.
