MYSORE: Forest Minister C H Vijayshankar said that the state government will not give permission to construct hydel projects in the Western Ghats, on the banks of rivers across the state.
Announcing this to the media here on Monday, he added that the hydel projects that have come up in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district was cleared by the previous governments.He said that the department will not give permission to start resorts in forest land inside national parks. However, he said that they have no control over resorts mushrooming on revenue and private lands.

He added that the government is keeping vigil on the movement of tourists in national parks. The forest minister also assured to reconsider reducing the safari fee and entry fees at the national parks and to properties maintained by the forest department.

He claimed that the government will be planting monoculture species and has banned the planting of eucalyptus in government and forest land.
