HYDERABAD: Brushing aside reports that the state government would appoint special officers for panchayat bodies on the lines of various municipalities, finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy on Thursday asserted that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to conduct elections to local bodies as per the existing law without any change in reservations to SC, ST and BC communities."The government is ready to conduct elections to local bodies and has already informed the State Election Commission regarding this. Previous reservations provided to different communities will be implemented in the polls," he said.Fielding queries by mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Ramanarayana Reddy said that the chief minister has already directed the departments concerned to take necessary steps for the smooth conduct of the local body elections.Panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy and municipal administration minister M Maheedhar Reddy have also made it clear that the issue of appointing special officers to panchayat bodies does not arise as the government was preparing for polls, he said.The minister also brushed aside the rumours which were rife in political circles that the Congress Central leadership has given scope for the emergence of another "power centre" in the state Congress by appointing transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana as the new APCC president.Both the chief minister and the APCC chief would strive together to strengthen the party and for the party's victory in the next elections in 2014, he said.Anam, along with labour minister Danam Nagender, MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLA D Sudheer Reddy and others said that Botcha would assume charge as the APCC president at a meeting to be held at Gandhi Bhavan premises here on June 11 at 11.11 a.m.Prior to it, the APCC chief designate would pay floral tributes to the statues of late Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, BR Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram and would participate in a huge rally to be taken out from Katta Maisamma temple near state Assembly to Gandhi Bhavan. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, outgoing APCC chief D Srinivas, former chief ministers, ex-APCC presidents, AICC secretaries, ministers, MPs, MLAs and others from across the state would attend the meeting, he said.
