Government sources clarified on Monday that there were no “issues” with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s chopper, after some media reports cited its take-off in Bihar’s Begusarai earlier in the day. A video too surfaced online.
The reports suggested that the chopper faced issues with balance amid strong winds. The 59-year-old BJP leader was on his way out from an election rally.
Reacting to reports, government sources said: “Some channels reported that there was some balance issue while Hon’ble Home Minister’s Helicopter was taking off from Begusarai, Bihar. Kindly note there was no such issues.”
Earlier in the day, while addressing a public rally, the Home Minister had said that “making Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM for the third term means ending the ‘casteism’ in Bihar and to begin a politics based on merits…”
He took a swipe at the opposition grouping and said that if “the INDI alliance win, who will be the PM? Can they make Lalu Yadav the PM, can Stalin or Mamata Banerjee handle this nation, can you even think about ‘Rahul Baba’?”
“PM Modi wants to take this entire country, Bihar and Mithilanchal in the modern era, whereas Lalu Yadav wants you to be in ‘laalten yug’… Only a decisive Prime Minister like Narendra Modi can take you from ‘laalten yug’ to ‘LED yug’,” Shah said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting on 17 seats, while CM Nitish Kumar’s JD-U will fight on 16 and Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) on five.
Two other NDA allies — Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Morcha — will contest on one seat each.
The general elections in Bihar will be in seven phase. Of the 40 seats, nine went to polls in the first and second phase respectively.
And of the remaining 31 seats, five each will go to polls on May 7, May 13 and May 20, and eight each on May 25 and June 1. The counting of the votes will take place on June 4.
