CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday permitted filing of another PIL for further directions to prevent the Bus Day celebrations in the city. The First Bench comprising Chief Justice (CJ) M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam told advocate R Krishnamurthy to come up with a regular petition, when the latter brought the issue to the notice of the Bench. In the morning, when the court assembled for the day, the advocate furnished a copy of a newspaper and said the court must intervene to prevent incidents such as Thursday’s foiled Bus Day bid by the Pachaiyappa’s College students and the subsequent violence unleashed by them on the general public.Krishnamurthy said despite a specific order by the HC last year, the authorities had failed to curb the practice this year. He added that it had resulted in a stone-pelting incident that left several members of the public and the policemen, including a child, injured. The CJ lamented that a fraction of students and lawyers were indulging in undesirable activities, bringing disrepute to the entire academic and legal fraternity.Noting that he was proud to serve at the Chartered Madras HC, the CJ said he was interested only in the welfare of the advocate community. Reiterating his observations, made when he was part of a seven-judge Bench  on Thursday, he said only a tiny group of lawyers created trouble to the High Court.Last year, the same Bench had banned the Bus Day in the city and had directed the Director General of Police and the CoP to ensure that no permission was given for  such celebrations in future.
