New Delhi: The chief of Delhi Police is mulling a proposal to start an anti-harassment operation similar to the anti-Romeo squad in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh - but the name will be different.

Sources said the Shaktivahini could be the most likely name, given it would be an all-women squad, but a final call is yet to be taken.

The aim is not just to curb molestation and harassment, said a source, but also to make women more aware of their rights. Also Read: Anti-Romeo squads become active in Jharkhand

The women police personnel will be given two-wheelers and they will operate in areas from where cases of molestation have been reported the most. They will also roam lanes and bylanes where PCR vans find it difficult to reach.

The proposal has been sent for approval and scooters have been requisitioned, sources said. The preparation will be three stages - training in the use of pistols, learning to ride two-wheelers and a quick course in criminal law.
