Ola cab driver held on charges of raping a woman passenger in Bhopal
The accused driver committed the crime on December 29 and threatened the woman with dire consequences. Later he was arrested by the Bhopal police.

Bhopal: Almost a year after an Uber cab driver was sentenced to life for harassing a woman passenger in Delhi in 2014, an Ola cab driver was arrested for allegedly raping a woman passenger in Bhopal on Sunday.

The incident took place on December 29 but the woman - a mother of two children - was so traumatised that she was reluctant to lodge any complaint. Later she has decided to take the matter to the police and a formal FIR was registered at Koh-e-Fiza police on January 1.

Based on her complaint, the accused driver working for Ola - an app-based cab service - was arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation.

Earlier, on November 4, another Ola cab driver was arrested on charges of misbehaving with a female passenger and her daughter. According to police, the driver took a detour which sparked an argument with the complainant.

The driver demanded the complainant and her daughter exit the vehicle. The woman then called the police and the driver was arrested soon after on charges of threat and intimidation.

However, Ola issued a statement saying that the said driver was not logged on to the Ola platform.

"At the time of the reported incident, the said driver was not logged on to the Ola platform. We have terminated the driver from the platform with immediate effect. We have requested the police to expedite the case further with the respective parties and we will offer all support in providing whatever information required by them to investigate this complicated case", the statement read.
