BANGALORE: While most ministers, including State Housing Minister V Somanna, decided to give the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) function a miss, only Power Minister Shobha Karandlaje stood by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s side; a scene almost reminiscent of his ‘lonely’ political stance. This, on the day that the Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice Santosh Hegde, submitted the report on illegal mining to the Governor of Karnataka. However, Yeddyurappa was at his ‘rebellious’ best and asserted that he would continue to be CM and complete the remaining two years of his term.“The antics of the Opposition parties should be used during the time of the elections, and they should not try to keep pulling me down like this,” he said, and added that they would channel their energy and ability to create a healthy and competitive environment to bring about more development.“The people of the state would give us their judgement after two years. I am sure that they would bless us with their support for all the good developmental works we have done so far,” he added, and further insulted the Opposition, saying, “They (Opposition parties) must get used to sitting in the Opposition’s gallery itself.” He hailed the efforts of the BDA in its initiative to build 30,000 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quarters in Valagerahalli Housing Complex premises. He asked the BDA to undertake the construction of an additional 20,000 homes under the same scheme.“We are working towards the upliftment of the downtrodden, but Opposition parties are proving as constant hurdles in our efforts,” he lamented.Home Minister R Ashok, Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar, and a host of other ministers were not present for the event.
