RAMANATHAPURAM: The government has decided to launch ‘Operation Hamla’ in the district for three days from June 22. The operation is part of its exercise in overhauling the security arrangements to prevent intrusion of strangers and terrorists into the country.This operation is expected to strengthen police alertness and to rejuvenate the security forces. Under the programme, some commandos will enter the district through both water ways and land. A red alert will be given and the local police, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Coastal Security Group police and other intelligence police teams will take action to apprehend the intruders.A keen contest prevails among the police personnel and defence forces to apprehend the intruders in order to earn the commendation of the higher officials. A high level discussion was held here on Monday to discuss the modalities of the operation. A police officer told Express that the police personnel and other defence forces would mount vigil to nab the intruders to secure commendation from the government. The operation would energise the police personnel to be alert in coastal areas and land to prevent any intrusion.
