Melbourne: Leander Paes and partner Radek Stepanek have entered the semi-finals of the Australian Open doubles with a straight sets win over 10th seeds Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares in Melbourne on Wednesday.

The unseeded Indo-Czech pair beat the American-Brazilian pair of Butorac and Soares 6-4, 7-6.

Paes and Stepanek got off the blocks better than their fancied opponents and looked comfortable in the first set as they held their serve with ease and converted the only break point they received to wrap up the set.

Butorac and Soares looked better in the second set as they put pressure on the opponents' serve and exchanged breaks forcing a tie-breaker.

Paes and Stepanek took a 3-0 lead in the tie-breaker and held their nerves win 7-4. They will now take on second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor for a place in the final.
