Ranchi: Ranchi Airport witnessed high drama on Monday evening as agitated passengers of a grounded Mumbai-bound Kingfisher flight accused the airline of ill-treatment.

Kingfisher flight IT-3571 from Patna, with 70 passengers on board, landed in Ranchi at 4 pm, 30 minutes behind schedule when its pilot sensed a snag caused due to a metal piece that got stuck in the engine.

"When the plane took off officials found metal piece on runway. We have checked parameters and that is absolutely fine. That metal piece got stuck in the engine which created problem. But we have landed safely and that is what matters," said the pilot.

Trouble started around 8:30 pm when some passengers started voicing their protest as they tried to inquire about the emergency landing. A heated argument soon snowballed into a scuffle with the ground staff of Kingfisher allegedly manhandling some passengers.

"They have beaten one man and after seeing this one passenger, who is a patient of high blood pressure, fainted. There is no security for us. Even the police are not here and they are not coming to our help," said a passenger Veena Sharan.

Upset passengers also filed a police complaint with Hatia police, alleging ill-treatment and attempted assault by the airline staff.

One of Kingfisher Airlines staff, Krishna Yadav, was arrested on assault charge by the police late on Monday night. The two other accused employees are absconding.
