New Delhi: New Delhi's Patel Nagar faces the twin problems of shortage of drinking water and parking. Even though there is massive shortage of water in the area, millions of gallons of drinking water is flowing down the drains.
Residents of the area say that a water pipe in the area has been leaking for the last four years but despite their repeated complaints there has been no action from the civic authorities.
Local councillor Archana Gupta said that she had sent several written complaints to the Delhi government and Jal Board but the pipe is still leaking. She said that officials do visit the area, yet have refused to act on the complaints. She added that while people are struggling for drinking water, but the same is flowing down the drain from the leaking pipe.
Parking is another big other problem in Patel Nagar. People park their vehicles in a haphazard manner affecting the business of the shops in the area. A shopkeeper Bhajan Singh said that due to lack of parking many people avoid coming to the market.
Vinod Kumar Gupta, a resident of Patel Nagar, said that there have been a lot of fights in area over parking of vehicles. There have been incidents when people have been opened fire on one another over parking of vehicles. But there has been no solution till now to the parking problem.
