A 42-year-old man, J Srinivasan of Sulagiri village, on Monday, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate-I, Akiladevi, in connection with the murder of senior leader of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK), Palani (45), on July 5.
Judge Akiladevi sentenced him to judicial custody and directed the police to remand him at the Vellore Central Prison for Men in Thorapadi. Srinivasan was the fourth person who had surrendered before the Vellore Court in connection with the murder case. On Saturday, Gopana (38) alias Gopana Alli, Murali (alias) Murali Krishnan (28) of Mukhandapalli and Krishnappa (29) of Korattagiri surrendered before the court. They were subsequently remanded to the Vellore Central Prison.
The Uthanapalli Police registered a case against 22 persons, including Thally MLA Ramachandran, under Sections 147,148, 120 (b), 302 of IPC read with Section 25 of Arms Act read with Section 5 of Explosive Act for shooting Palani to death at his farmland in Balepuram on July 5. The murderers had also beheaded Palani using sharp weapons.
So far, 13 persons have either surrendered or were arrested in connection with this murder case. However, the MLA and his family members were at large, said the police.
