PM announces relief for Sabarimala victims
The Prime Minister has sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sanctioned a relief of Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each as compensation to those injured in the Sabarimala incident, from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

The Prime Minister expressed deep shock at the tragedy that took place at Sabarimala in Kerala. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and spoke to the Chief Minister of Kerala regarding the incident.

President Pratibha Patil also condoled the incident. Kerala Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac said that Kerala government will fund the cremation of victims.

Condoling the tragedy Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the family of the dead and Rs 20,000 for those injured.

Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, expressing grief over the incident, said that the incident is unfortunate. He told that the Prime Minister has assured that all measures will be taken. He added that Kerala government will decide an appropriate compensation for the victims.

A series of accidents near the hill shrine of Sabarimala on Friday left more than 100 pilgrims dead. 102 bodies were recovered and sent to Vandiperiyar Health Centre.
