CUDDALORE: Inaugurating a symposium on agriculture, former union minister and PMK youth wing chief Anbumani Ramadoss distributed 5,000 saplings to the people of Meenatchipettai on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, he assured that his party would distribute five lakh saplings across the district within this year.“PMK held a demonstration a few days ago demanding that the government declare Cuddalore district as a disaster-hit zone and enhance compensation to farmers. The party also conducted medical camps at four places, for which PMK spent Rs 20 lakh. Now, we are giving away saplings to people. We would continue to extend our support to the people particularly the farmers of this district till they get back to normalcy,” he said.Starting from next month saplings would be distributed to cyclone-hit areas, Ramadoss said.“Villupuram and Cuddalore districts are where innumerable huts are present. Since these districts are often affected by natural calamity, all huts should be rebuilt as concrete shelters immediately. Moreover, monthly pension should be given to cashew farmers for 10 years,” he demanded.
