Kolkata: Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen and his close aide Debjani Mukherjee were produced in a court on Thursday as their 14-day custody ended. Sources said police were likely to add two more charges as fresh FIRs have been registered against them on the basis of the new complaints filed by the investors. The police were also likely to ask for their custody for two more weeks.
"The 14 days police custody of Sudipta Sen and Debjani Mukherjee (director) has been more or less fruitful. We have got much valuable information from them," Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Arnab Ghosh said. He, however, declined to reveal whether the police will seek further police custody of Sen and Mukherjee or not.
The police have also unearthed 254 bank accounts and close to 200 properties of the Saradha Group chairman, who allegedly had links with the Trinamool Congress. It is also alleged that he spent money for payoffs to influential politicians and businessmen to prop up his business.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Left Front headed by CPM leader Surya Kanta Mishra is scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday. They will submit a memorandum asking for a CBI probe into the West Bengal chit fund scam. The Left has been demanding CBI's intervention saying that due to alleged involvement of a few Trinamool Congress's leaders, the state government will make it difficult for an impartial investigation.
Sen, Mukherjee and another Saradha official, Arvind Singh Chouhan, were arrested from Sonamarg in Kashmir valley on April 24 while they were on the run.
