Pollution Dipped During first 10 Days of Odd-Even Scheme: CSE

New Delhi: The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has come out in support of the Delhi government's odd-even plan. According to the CSE, air pollution dipped during the first 10 days of the scheme.

However, an increase in air pollution was registered post April 23 due to crop burning and forest fires, in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

The CSE has questioned reports released by organisations like India Spend which suggest the odd-even scheme did not reduce pollution in the capital.

The agency concluded that the car rationing scheme is an important measure to help control worsening of pollution. But this should be implemented along with longer term solutions for lasting air quality gains.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Delhiites for making the second phase of odd-even scheme a "success". The fate of its next edition will be decided only after a report of comparative study of the two phases by a committee set up by government.
