BANGALORE: Industries on Tuesday said they were willing to stagger holidays to tide over the power crisis if the government assured uninterrupted power for the rest of the days.Prakash Raikar, representing Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) at a meeting with Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday, said the daily requirement of industries in Bangalore was 125 MW.BESCOM managing director P Manivannan assured the gathering that there would be no load shedding on the remaining days.BESCOM officials said industry associations would have to shut down their factories themselves since shutting power supply to feeders was not feasible since some areas have mixed load serving both industries and residential areas.BESCOM will now work out a schedule and discuss it with industry representatives, including KASSIA and Federation of Karnataka Chamber Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) representatives, who also attended the meeting.Subject to approval by all parties, staggered holidays for Bangalore’s industries may start as early as Thursday. However, since the Karnataka Energy Regulatory Commission is yet to be approached with an application, matters may be delayed till next week.“We will work out a schedule and implement it for a month in Bangalore. Based on the results, we will then consider expanding the concept to the entire state or making it a regular scheme,” said Karandlaje, quoting the example of states like Maharashtra and Gujarat.
