Prasar Bharti CEO denies corruption charges
President of India gave her assent for SC inquiry into charges of corrupeion against Prasar Bharti CEO, BS Lalli.

New Delhi: Hours after President Pratibha Patil gave her assent for a Supreme Court inquiry into charges of financial irregularities against Prasar Bharti CEO BS Lalli, the officer came out strong in his defence.

Lalli said, "I am sad that I have to face this after nearly 40 yrs of unblemished service in the Indian Administrative Services. On one hand, I derive comfort from the fact that I will finally be heard and that, at last due focus will be given to facts rather than conjunctures, half truths and plain lies."

He added that a lot of mischief has been going within the organisation, which has unfortunately been abetted and encouraged by powerful elements from outside.

In a statement on Thursday, Lalli said that the allegations were aimed at not only demonising of an individual but also the derailment of a premier democratic institution.

Lalli said that once Supreme Court's inquiry is finalised, the truth will be out and open. He said, "Judicial scrutiny, I am sure will also show that sallacious interpretation of relevant provisions of laws and rules was made to arrive at certain conclusions and that presumptions and prejudice held the field while the facts on record were not acknowledged."

Lalli, a 1971 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, is accused of corruption in the Commonwealth Games among other cases and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had been pressing for his removal.
