KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday held that the MBBS entrance examination held by the Kerala Private Medical College Managements’ Association (KPMCMA) on July 14 is illegal and void.Justice Antony Dominic directed the state to take over the process of admission for management seats in colleges under the association, and pick up students according to the rank list prepared by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination  on merit basis.  Flaying the Mohammed Committee, KPMCMA and state, the court imposed a fine of  `5 lakh on the association for its defiant attitude and repeated violation of law. The fine must be paid to the Kerala High Court Legal Services Committee within a month. The court passed the judgment while hearing  a writ petition filed by P Amina Nahna of Kozhikode challenging the entrance exam. “The Kerala Professional Colleges Act, which came into force in 2006, was enacted to ensure fair, transparent and merit-based admission procedure in a non-exploitative manner. “The association has violated the provisions of the Act.  This cannot be approved by the court, ” the High Court said.  The court ordered that the state must take over the admission process and substitute its own procedure.
