THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The performance of the Public Sector Undertakings in the state would be reviewed soon, Industries and Information Technology Minister P K Kunhalikutty said here on Tuesday.Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club, he said that the decision to review the performance had been communicated to all the PSUs and would be completed with the help of Public Sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board (RIAB).“A restructuring rule was formulated in the case of PSUs during the previous UDF rule. That was utilised by the LDF during their tenure,” the minister replied when asked about the revival policy of the PSUs by the previous LDF Government. He said that the industrial policy of the state would be framed according to the changing trends and the focus would be on employment generation. However, the government was not planning any drastic changes immediately. Asked about the UDF Government’s approach towards infrastructure projects by private firms, the minister said these infrastructure projects would receive clearance based only on general policy and not based on individual considerations In the Information Technology sector, the minister said that while the last five years were wasted by the state, states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had achieved great progress. A discussion on the Smart City project is scheduled for June 23. Despite a huge fund flow from the Centre, the civic issues in towns in the state are getting aggravated and has to be addressed at the earliest, the minister said. Regarding the fifth minister sought by the IUML, Kunhalikutty said that a final call on the issue would be taken only after discussions in the coming days. When asked about Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan’s charge that the UDF Government was trying to victimise him and his family members, the minister replied that a hunter would hardly realise the feelings of the hunted, except when he himself becomes a victim.
