New Delhi: Rains, hailstorm and snowfall across the country have paralysed normal life and destroyed crops worth crores. In Jammu and Kashmir, 10 people have been killed due to avalanches. In Maharashtra, 8 lakh hectares of crops have been hit in the Marathwada region by hailstorms. Similar conditions are likely to prevail in the state for the next two days. The prices of vegetables have already gone up in the state. Meanwhile, Maharashta Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has toured the affected areas.

The situation is similar in Madhya Pradesh where rains have destroyed crops worth Rs 13,000 crore so far. The Met Department has said that weather will clear in a day or two but there won't be complete respite from rain. Meanwhile, another western disturbance is expected to reach Northwest India around March 17.

"In Maharashtra and MP, rains will reduce in a day or two and there will be light rain showers. In hilly areas also rain will stop in a day or two but in Delhi, UP and Punjab there will be scattered rain. There won't be a complete respite from rain," said MET.

Meanwhile, states like Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka have also seen considerable crop damage due to rainfall.
