Jaipur: Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday passed a resolution in support of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who has been summoned as an accused in a coal scam case.
The resolution was moved by PCC President Sachin Pilot in a party meeting which was unanimously passed. "Singh's ten-year tenure as prime minister is the highest example of his high standards and dedication in the interest of the nation. His works increased India's reputation and he successfully controlled the economy due to his perfect financial management in the most difficult times," the resolution said.
"It is unfortunate that his name is being dragged in controversy but we all Congressmen have full faith in Indian judicial system," it said. Singh was in Dausa on Saturday to inaugurate a community center and unveil the statue of former Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma.
The state unit of the party praised Singh for his honesty and integrity, PCC Vice President Archana Sharma said. A special court had summoned Singh along with industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary PC Parakh and three others as accused in a case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005 and asked them to appear before it on April 8.
