Ramadoss degrading AIIMS: Doctors
AIIMS Faculty Association alleges Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has imposed ''illegal'' decisions on the institute.

New Delhi: The AIIMS governing body meeting scheduled for Monday is set to be a stormy affair with the AIIMS Faculty Association alleging that Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has imposed ''arbitrary'' and ''illegal'' decisions on the institute administration, resulting in its ''destruction'' and ''degradation''.

''We demand an immediate halt to the destruction and degradation of this great Institute and its faculty who have served the nation. The Health Minister is imposing arbitrary, illegal and administratively wrong decision on AIIMS administration,'' Faculty Association president Dr B K Khaitan told PTI.

A battle is on between Ramadoss, who is the President of the institute, and Venugopal since last year when the apex body of the institute had recommended the dismissal of the Director, which was stayed by the court.

Dr Khaitan said the Health Ministry has not taken a single step for the welfare of the faculty or the doctors. ''Only personnel issues have been discussed. In the past one year the Health Ministry has not taken a single decision for the benefit of AIIMS or its doctors,'' he was quoted by PTI.

Claiming that Director P Venugopal was not allowed to prepare the agenda for the meeting, Dr Khaitan said all the items for meeting are being sent by the Health Minister.

The doctors are also demanding that the report of the Valiathan Committee, constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to review functioning of AIIMS, be made public.

''Instead of wasting time and public money in fruitless attempts to remove the Director, it should be decided how to implement the recommendations,'' he observed. With inputs from PTI
