BANGALORE: After making headlines as a strong contender for the State Youth Congress president’s post, popular Kannada actress Ramya retracted from the contest following voices of dissent within the party.Ramya did not file her nomination on Sunday, the last date to do so. Though, people close to the actress claimed that she could not file nominations as she was busy shooting abroad, sources in the Congress point at the dissenting voices raised against her candidature as the reason for her decision to keep out of the contest.The recent statement of the actress praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also did not go well with the Congress leaders, the sources said.With Ramya out of the fray, Priyank Kharge, son of Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge stands a good chance of winning the elections to be held on October 12 and 13.There are eighteen candidates in the fray, including Rizwan, Pradeep from Mysore, Srinivas (Rajajinagar), Shashi (Gandhinagar), BBMP corporator Lokesh (Shantinagar) and Shajid Das (Bangalore South).The scrutiny of nominations will be done on Monday after which symbols will be allotted to the candidates.
