Jammu: The Army's Northern Command will get the highest number of gallantry awards, including one Ashok Chakra and three Kriti Chakras, on the occasion of the Republic day this year.
The awards announced on occasion of the Republic Day 2012 once again saw the highest number of gallantry awards being conferred to the troops in Northern Command", PRO (Def) Ministry of Defence, HQ Northern Command, Lt Col Rajesh Kalia said in Jammu on Wednesday.
The Northern Command has been awarded one Ashok Chakra, three Kriti Chakras, six Shaurya Chakras and a large number of other gallantry awards, he said adding that these awards stand tribute to the many heroes, some of those who have made the supreme sacrifice.
Amongst the awardees is Lt Navdeep Singh who has posthumously been named for the Ashoka Chakra, he said.
Lt Gen K T Patnaik, GOC-in-C, Northern Command has been awarded the Param Vishist Sewa Medal while Lt Gen S A Hasnain, GOC, 15 Corps, awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal.
