HYDERABAD: To monitor and manage cyclones,the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced its plan to procure a Hercules C-130J and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for aircraft probing of cyclones to reduce errors. The announcement was made by the vice-chairman of NDMA , M. Shashidhar Reddy on February 28 to a seven-member delegation from Madagascar on a study tour for dealing with cyclones and natural disasters.The vice-chairman further announced that the Phase 1 of the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project is under implementation at Andhra Pradesh and Odisha at a cost of Rs. 1496.71 crore. The project being conducted in collaboration with World Bank aims to cover 13 cyclone prone coastal states and Union Territories in the country to strengthen infrastructure and reduce vulnerability to the disaster.
