BANGALORE: Pointing out the condition of Government Primary School, Gavipuram, members of the Karnataka State Rajiniji Seva Samiti lashed out at the government for ignoring the school in which Tamil superstar Rajnikanth had studied for 5 years. “Around 300 students are presently enrolled in the school and it does not have basic facilities like water and sanitation,” said Rajini Murugan, president of the Samiti. “In 2009, the government had sanctioned Rs 80 lakh for renovation of the school but the work is yet to begin. Where has all the money gone?” questioned Murugan. He stated that the association had approached the government asking for help to maintain the school but there was no response. According to Murugan, Rajnikanth was willing to help the school personally but believes that construction and renovation of a government school should be carried out by the government itself. “Rajnikanth has promised to assist the school,” he said and added that the Samiti would wait till Jan 31 for the government to take action. They warned to protest outside the chief minister’s residence if no action was taken in this regard. “Let the government give us a letter stating they have no records of the money allotted to renovate the school. We will take the matter into our own hands and improve the school,” he said.
