BANGALORE: The residents of Gayathrinagar Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike ward are having sleepless nights thanks to the increasing number of two-wheleers which pass through their locality on a daily basis. The ongoing Metro works near Devaiah Park, Harischandra Ghat, Mariyappanapalya are the main reason for the increase in the number of vehicles on this route. When City Express visited the ward, we found many residents complaining of the same issue. Adding to this issue are the street lights in the locality. Most of the street lights in Nagappa Block are outdated and they need replacement. The residents demanded sodium lamps. The residents also complained about the tree branches which blocks the street lights. They demanded the Palike to visit the ward regularly and to cut the extra tree branches which are causing inconvenience. “Children play on streets after their schools and tuitions get over. Because of the poor street lighting, the children may get overseen by the speeding vehicles which take this route to avoid the main road, where the Metro construction works is taking place,” said Saravana R, a resident. The residents have their own share of water woes too and have to depend on private tankers to fulfil their domestic water needs. “The bore wells in the area are not in a working condition. They should be set right to cater to our needs,” said Loyolla S, a resident. “Even the recently laid pipes supply water only twice a week,” added Loyalla. The ward corporator Smt. Chetan Gowda was not available for any comments.
