BANGALORE: Residents of areas surrounding Millers Road can heave a sigh of relief as Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will complete its pipe-laying work by Wednesday night. A 16hour shutdown of water supply began on Wednesday morning.BWSSB Engineering Chief T Venkat Raju said that the police had given the department 30 days to complete the work, and as promised by Minister Suresh Kumar, the work has been completed within a fortnight. As part of the project which involves linking the local network of pipes to the new pipe, water was drained from the existing pipe covering a few km, leading to the loss of 1.8 million litres of water. When questioned why the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board did not prevent the loss, he explained that BWSSB has high pressure pumps to suck the water out but the process would take at least four-five days, delaying the project.Although Millers Road is partially open to traffic, it will be open fully only after it is asphalted, which would be taken up only after the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) completes work on storm water drains.
