HYDERABAD: Traffic came to a grinding halt at several places in the city and also on major routes including national and state highways connecting Telangana to other parts of the state as pro-Telangana activists organised road blockades as a part of the Sakala Janula Samme on Wednesday. Commuters got stranded for long hours in the slow-paced traffic. Telangana JAC of employees, teachers and workers approached the State Human Rights Commission for initiating action against the police officers who attacked TJAC employees chairman K Swami Goud on Tuesday.TJAC activists along with TRS, BJP and employees organisations staged rasta rokos at 100 places on major roads and junctions in Hyderabad.TRS legislators K T Rama Rao, Harish Rao besides BJP leaders including former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, JAC convener M Kodandaram were among those who were taken into preventive custody for staging rasta rokos and disrupting traffic after indulging in altercations with policemen.Blocking all roads leading to Hitec City, the pro-T activists led by TRS leader Harish Rao disrupted vehicular movement causing harrowing experiences for IT employees. Harish Rao said they would turn Hyderabad into the hotbed for Telangana agitation as the government is adopting wicked strategies against government employees who are fighting for the cause of T state. Many motorists started off from their homes early in the morning to avoid traffic jams. As the rasta rokos were organised at 100 different places, several commuters were clueless as to which route should be taken to reach their destinations without getting caught in a traffic jam. Hyderabad city police too failed to regulate traffic as the rasta rokos were organised during peak hours of traffic between 9 a.m and 11 a.m.The situation was similar in most parts of Telangana as T activists blocked major roads including NH-9, NH-7 and NH-5 that connects Hyderabad with other parts of the State including Mirayalaguda-Narkatpally road, Nagarjuna Sagar highway in Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahaboonagar districts. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowds at several places leading to tension. At a few places, the agitators exchanged heated arguments with the police and pelted stones and chappals at them. They were all arrested. However, the traffic eased from the afternoon after the police arrested the agitators and regulated the vehicular movement.Meanwhile, the Telangana employees approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking action against the police officers responsible for attack on Swami Goud and demanded suspension of DCP (west zone) Stephen Ravindra. SHRC chairman in-charge Pedaperi Reddy has directed the state government to submit a report on the issue before October 3 and sent a team of SHRC officials to examine the health of Swami Goud who was injured during a scuffle at RTA office in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
