Tamil Nadu: The Mettur Court?s decision to give South Indian actor Kushboo bail was met with massive protests by PMK supporters.
The police had to lathi-charge PMK protestors outside the Mettur court to get Kushboo out of the area.
The mob threw slippers, rotten tomatoes and eggs on actress Kushboo proving that the PMK cadres can cross all lines to show their protest of Kushboo?s statements on pre-marital sex.
PMK and a few other outfits have created scenes like these in the past outraging the Tamil literary community.
Even Tamil actress Suhasini, who defended actress Kushboo's remarks on pre-marital sex, on Tuesday, was forced to retract her statement after protests.
Several activists are viewing these protests in more serious light ? as a threat to the freedom of expression in a democracy.
Kushboo has told the Mettur court that she would not make any further statements on the subject till the case is disposed off.
The PMK?s dramatic protests have only ensured that a public debate on an issue as important as AIDS awareness and premarital sex has taken the back seat.
